Punk Fashion - A Brief History

Punk Fashion - A Brief History

Punk fashion has been gaining speed in popularity, for years. "Punk fashion" as it is referred to, is the style of dress within the punk subculture. When music of punk was established in the early nineteen seventies, it was inevitable for the clothes to follow. The Punk fashion, tend to be a more rebellious and shocking style, while it seems to be a far cry from the punk fashion of the here and now. While we try to emulate the lost fashion of the past, unfortunately there are no true means to bring back the original punk genre.
From designers like Vivienne Westwood, who helped to influence the punk fashion at the time. Such as famous punk icons, like the Ramones. From tattered tees, vulgar clothing, simple things such as the anarchy symbols, controversial images, studded jackets, and patches were all the rage.
Later down the line, things such as bondage style clothing, which often times sported thick chain straps, or corduroy straps attached to the pant. There were also tapered jeans took the scene by storm. This was also the time that hairstyles begin to take a turn for the radical. Hair became to be vivid with brightly dyed colors, such as hues of pinks, blues, and greens the lengths tending to be on the short side. However, this was only the very beginning of this controversial fashion.
About ten years later, the punk scene became revolutionized. The shock factor became more important, as combat boots became the footwear of choice among the majority. Plaid skirts, tatter jeans, and heavy chains began to adorn the bodies of punks around the world. Punks of all ages began to turn the heat up on their already loud hair styles. Mohawks, liberty spikes, piercings and tattoos became the norm.
In this modern day and age, not many things have changed. Do it yourself clothing, are as popular as the day they had started. However, generally punks will sport hoodies, or a simple tee . Most of the punk fashion these days, often pays homage to the original 1970's roots. Not only is dressing punk an entertaining pastime, but allows for a little self expression as well.
Show your baby's style by dressing them up in your favorite band's t-shirts and onesies. Whether it's The Ramones, Led Zeppelin or 311, there are punk rock baby clothes as well as funny toddler clothes, toddler shirts, punk maternity clothes and diaper bags available. Other kids clothing and gift items include: Toddler skate shoes, slogan baby clothes, rompers, baby bibs, beanies and punk clothes.

The Emo Lifestyle

The Emo Lifestyle

What is emo?
Emo stands for emotional rock. This phrase is contradictory; I know, mostly all music is emotional in one way or another.
What sets this apart?
Emo is extra emotional (super-sized if you might say), which is why it's referred to as emo. This phrase now describes lyrics about life, love, and consequences, wicked bar chords, quick power chords, melodic guitar riffs, and punk rock-like drum beats. The most popular instruments for emo bands are guitar, bass, and drums, but every once in a while, a violin or synthesizer will pop up.
Emo Fashion:
Most emo-type people wear tight pants and kid-sized full bleed t-shirts with old school sneakers, such as Chuck Taylors, 1980s style Reeboks, or Sauconys . Flannel shirts, popped collars, trucker hats, oversized sunglasses, long hair, and faux-hawks are also popular. A faux-hawk is a really wide mo-hawk that isn't as drastic or as eye catching as a traditional mo-hawk.
Stereo-types:
Everything you hear is a stereo-type. There may be a business-like professional gentleman that enjoys the emo scene. There may also be a long-haired hippy-like stoner that enjoys a little emo every now and again.
Emo History
The history of emo is somewhat less ambiguous than its current meaning. "Emo" music developed out of the D.C. punk scene in the '80s. In its original incarnation, emo was short for emocore, or emotional-hardcore. The name was applied to hardcore punk rock bands who distinguished themselves from their peers by adding an emotional component to their music, dealing with sadness and love and angst in their lyrics. The music was also characterized by particularly dramatic vocals which, at best, left the audience in an emotionally charged state, crying or screaming. These days, emo has been popularized and sent into the mainstream through bands like Dashboard Confessional, Taking Back Sunday and Saves the Day.

10 Alternative Rock Songs And Why They Should Be Your Favorites

10 Alternative Rock Songs And Why They Should Be Your Favorites

10. Linkin Park- 'Numb' - This tune is a certain win from LP, illustrating what most teenagers feel when their parents try to push stuff on them. "Can't you see that you're smothering me/ Holding too tightly/ Afraid to lose control" speaks to me as to what kids feel but cannot convey. I love Chester Bennington's vocals anyway, so it's an added incentive. 9. Jay Gordon- 'Slept So Long' - From the audio of Queen of the Damned, I could have sworn this tune was made for that movie. The lyrics are entirely vampiric and sound just what Lestat might be singing to his maker. I really like this tune for the slow and purposeful drums and the growly voice of the vocalist because both make the song just that more awesome. 8. Dethklok- 'Fansong' - I'll be honest here: I love Dethklok. They are just edgy enough to be pleasantly raw. This song particularly is a favorite of mine since the band is blatantly dissing the fans of their music, starting off with (my favorite part of the whole song), "You people out there give us more than just record sales/ You give us something to HATE/ And we hate you, you brainless mutants". Dude! Awesome! I think this is why they hold a firm fan base; they're raw and honest! 7. Marilyn Manson- 'This Is the New Sh*t' - God, I adore this song! The thing that appeals to adoration the most is that Marilyn Manson is the artist. Besides that, I love that the song is letting the gritty quality of the new world come to light rather than following along with old "lovey-dovey" ways. I'm not the type of individual who is by and large prissy and sweet, so this is an instant favorite. 6. Limp Bizkit- 'Break Stuff' - This is the ultimate song for those sh*tty days that everybody has. You know, the days when all you wish to do is rip somebody's head off? I find this a bang-up way to allow all that pent up stress out in lieu of really pulling someone's head off. Limp Bizkit hit the nail on the head with this song. 5. Fall Out Boy- 'Thnks Fr Th Mmrs' - You can say I'm a sheep, but I actually do like this song. This is one of those end-of-summer songs, right after the final great party. Patrick Stump's vocals has just gotten better, especially with the lyrics, "Get me out of my mind/ And get you out of those clothes" for a reference to the summer fling everybody loves to hate after the summer has passed. 4. Evanescence- 'Bring Me To Life' - Amy Lee is the image of the word "deep". This song, although old, will ever be a favorite of mine because of, its appearing in Daredevil, and two, the absolute depth of the lyrics Amy belts out with such passion. To be fair, this is an excellent shower-singing song because it's so low-pitched! 3. AFI- 'Love Like Winter' - There's actually no reason why I like this song other than the lyrics themselves. Just thinking of a wintertime made of sugar and ice is appealing! My favorite part of the lyrics is "Press your lips to the sculptures and surely you'll say/ Love like winter" because it sounds a little romantic. I also suggest checking out the music video for this song. 2. 3 Days Grace- 'Pain' - Haha, this song is the best. This is what the world is about these days and I'm loving it. A world of wretchedness is worse than a world of wrath. "Anger and agony/ Are better than misery"! 3DG is a eternal favorite here. 1. Papa Roach- 'Dead Cell' - What can I say? This tune is No. 1 {all theevery] time. Dead Cell is a term for an outcast in society, someone that does not quite fit with the rest of the world. I love this song strictly because it points out all the defects of the "normal" society and brings the loners to the front. Besides that, you gotta love Papa Roach!

Drums An Ancient Instrument That Rocks The Modern Music World

Drums An Ancient Instrument That Rocks The Modern Music World
I personally prefer the drums because of the loud and solid base they provide for a song. Without them, the song would sound washed out and dull. How many times have you listened to a hardcore rock song and headbanged to the beat of the drums? It's what keeps the music afloat. The drums have been around for ages, longer than any human alive today can remember. Although we use drums today mainly for musical purposes, drums served as a source of communication for ancient tribes. Africa uses what is called a "talking drum", which can convey messages using pitches and inflections used in languages. To motivate soldiers, drums are used. The beat sets a pace just like it would for a rock band who needs their solid pace to create a successful song. In the old-time based movies about colonial wars and such you often see a drummer at the front of an army procession, rat-a-tat-tatting away for the men behind them. Traditional cultures use drums for ceremonies of a religious nature. The beats of the drum in an American Indian pow wow aren't there for pleasure, you know. Some say that drums can eradicate unruly spirits or bring up good ones during a ceremony. In addition to being used for those purposes, drums can be used in music therapy. This can provide motor skills to someone in therapy to regain them. There are many reasons why the drums are specifically used for music therapy, among them being their easiness to use and tactile nature. Of course, the same kind of drum is not used for everything. For instance, a rock drummer would like something loud and with a low pitch, whereas a jazz drummer might prefer a softer and crisper drum sound. because of this, not every drum is made the same. The tone of a drum depends mostly on the shell, the different type of drumheads, and the tension of said drumheads. The drumheads, or the material on the top and bottom of a drum, are the things that effect the sound of a drum the most. Thick drumheads are deep-sounding and are loud. Plastic drumheads produce dull overtones, making the pitch stay relatively the same. Drumheads that have dots near the center dull the overtones even more. Finally, drumheads with outside "sound rings" get rid of the overtones nearly completely. A secondary factor that affects the sound of a drum is the tightness that the drumhead is fastened to the shell of a drum. This is just as important as the type of drumhead because when the hoop that holds the drumhead to the shell is put on, the bolts around the hoop can be adjusted to reduce or increase the amplitude and frequency of the sound the drum produces. The vibrations that hitting a drum with a drumstick or a hand produces resound within the shell of a drum. Having a bigger or smaller shell can affect the volume of the sound and the type of sound a drum produces. A jazz drummer might prefer small shells, whereas a rock drummer would want large shells. The type of wood a drum is made of can also affect the sound it makes. Drums are particularly useful in musical endeavors and knowing a bit about them is extremely helpful when choosing the right one for a sound. Rockers around the world will agree, however, that drums are the best part of a rock band, creating the beat we love to headbang to! No rock band is complete without a set of drums and a good drummer. Too bad you can't buy a drummer at the music store too.

Modern Rock Star Fashions Hot Wardrobe Trends For Teenage Music Fans

Modern Rock Star Fashions Hot Wardrobe Trends For Teenage Music Fans

A great example of extreme genre dressing is exhibited by fans of goth music. Just a mention of one of the genre conjurs up images of a weird looking group of teens at the mall. You know the type, they're all dressed in black with multiple piercings and spiked hair. When it comes to looking the part, these kids don't skimp on any part of their wardrobe. It's an all or nothing kind of look that isn't the most acceptable, to say the least. Quite often, these hard-core teenage rockers also adorne themselves with multiple piercings. When it comes to peircings things are always evolving. One of the hottest piercing trends is referred to as gauging. It's a simple method of starting out with a standard piercing and then inserting ever larger sized pieces of metal into the hole. Gauges are available in a variety of sizes, including everything from plugs and tunnels to barbells and tapers. Tongues, eyebrows, cheeks, noses, chins and lips are all popular public piercings. Some kids go all out and pierce everything twice if they can. The average teen doesn't go quite so far though and uses their piercings as small, yet distinct accessories. Of course, most places won't do a piercing for anyone under 18 unless they've got Mom or Dad's permission. That means alot of kids that want piercings have to wait until they're a little older. For under-age kids with parents dead-set against any form of face piercing, there are easy ways to fake it. Check around at the mall at a popular teenage merchandise store. You'll find all kinds of magnetic fake piercings for your ears, lips and nose. How cool is that? They'll be totally legal with the parents and there's absolutley no risk of infection or anything else. A lot of kids would also love to tattoo themselves. Again, this isn't a hugely popular notion among parents and other adults. But, alot like fake piercings, temporary tattoos are a great solution. There are literally thousands of inexpensive, interesting designs for kids to choose from too. It's quick, painless and best of all, temporary so there isn't any regret later on. Jewelry like cuffs and collars are also quite popular in the teenage rock community. From glittery, girly pieces to hardcore heavy-metal spiked leather pieces, there's something for every taste. Fingerless gloves have long been accessory favorites among the most devoted rock fashion followers. Whether they're emo stripes or leather and chain, they speak rock and roll. Some teens take the jewelry idea a step further and use tooth grills with flashy rhinestones or metal finishes. Hoodies are a new phenomena in the rock world. Nearly every rock band and fan out there wears them. Striped hoodies are super popular with emos and punk rockers. Serious rocker hoodies even come with a myriad of buckles and straps attached to them. There are even hoodies that zip up all the way to the top of the hood, forming a mask in some. Other zip all the way up hoodies even have plastic eye windows that allow you to see. Band tee shirts are an absolute must in any rockers wardrobe. Band t's don't have to be black to be rockstar cool. The popularity of the band shirt isn't as important as the impact of the colors, graphics and words on it. Some groups of teens actually prefer to wear vintage shirts of classic rock bands while others stick with new shirts only. Emo rockers tend to go for tight, dark wash or black jeans. Meanwhile the metal rocker can usually be found wearing baggy Tripp pants with metal chains and sippers all over them. Denim jeans with rips, tears and holes even have their place in teen rockstar fashion. Not all teenage rockers go to extreme with their pants though, some simply wear jeans and add to their look from there. Shoes finish off every outfit! To get their specific look though, smart teens don't mix musical genres. For example, most emo lovers wouldn't wear baggy, everyday kid fashions with their emo clothes. It just wouldn't give the same impression. Chunky canvas and high-top tennis shoes usually go well with most genre styles, including emo, metal and hard-rock. Still, alot of other shoe types and styles are totally appropriate, including tall leather boots for the seriously goth all the way to spikey high heels for the glamorous rocker look. Building the ultimate teenage rocker wardrobe is easy. Every rocker needs things like a couple of hoodies, some band tees, a couple pairs of cool jeans and some canvas tennis shoes. Add your own personality to the outfit with accessories, jewelry and top it off with an awesome hair style. Now, rock on!
